EXPERIENCE 

USER EXPERIENCE RESEARCHER | CA Technologies, Boulder, CO & Remote | August 2018 - Present

As the first UX researcher for CA's Project Portfolio Management software (formerly Clarity PPM), currently setting up a research practice. Ongoing efforts include:

▪     Building an automated participant database to simplify efforts to recruit, organize, and schedule studies.

▪     Leveraging Pendo analytics tool with PM to help understand product use and expand reach as sole researcher.

▪     Benchmarking key modules in the product via unmoderated usability studies to measure against future designs.

▪     Conducting high-level interviews with members of key teams including sales, support, PM and marketing to gain insight into customer frustrations and the product itself. 

▪     Planning an internal website to house and share research documentation, resources, and findings.

DESIGN RESEARCHER | Microsoft (via eXcell), Redmond, WA | March 2018 - July 2018

▪     Planned and ran research for OneDrive & SharePoint team, supporting desktop web and sync client for OneDrive, and Sharepoint features including document libraries, lists, and integration of Flow and PowerApps.

▪     Assisted with designing, analyzing, and reporting on group research sessions conducted at two key conferences. Methods included affinity mapping and participatory design exercises.

UX RESEARCHER | AT&T (via AustinCSI), Bothell, WA | February 2017 - February 2018

▪     Planned and conducted UX research for ATT.com (desktop, mobile, app) including interviews, customer collaboration, usability testing, cognitive walkthroughs, surveys, competitive analysis, and secondary research.

▪     Led the initial research effort in the recent redesign of the ATT.com homepage, including formative research and usability testing of early homepage designs.

▪     Helped start a Lean usability testing program that led to quicker and more iterative feedback to product teams.

UX RESEARCHER | Sumo Logic (freelance), Redwood City, CA | February 2017 – September 2017

▪     Provided remote UX research support for a B2B cloud-based log analysis tool, including research consultation, capturing and organizing observations from user sessions, and identifying key insights.

▪     Created a tool to collect and manage customer feedback from multiple channels, including Slack, which enabled teams to more effectively track user issues and bugs during a major beta release.

UX RESEARCHER | Weeknight Society (volunteer), Seattle, WA | March 2016 – July 2016

▪     Gave UX assistance including design consultation and user research (methods include heuristic evaluation, cognitive walkthrough, usability testing).

▪     Directed and conducted usability testing of mobile recipe app. Deliverables included study design, participant guide, data collection sheet, analysis, and summary report to inform UX strategy.

▪     Designed, ran, and analyzed applied research studies, and prepared reports to drive project development.

▪     Key course concepts: user-centered design process, interaction design, usability evaluation and testing, user research, information architecture, prototyping.

▪     UX Project | Created specifications for a novel retirement app that incorporated conversational UI and AI. Covered the entire user experience process, including user research, personas, scenarios, analysis, ideation, sketching, prototyping (paper & high fidelity), user testing, and reporting. Research methods included secondary research, semi-structured interviews, draw the experience, and surveys.

▪     UX Project | Designed and conducted lab-based usability testing for Microsoft (Skype for Business App). Deliverables included interactive map, study design, screener, moderation script, questionnaires, data collection tools, analysis, video highlight reels, reporting, and presentation to the Skype for Business team.
